Welcome to Salaat 101, a website designed specifically for New Muslims to learn the basics of Salaat.

After accepting Islam, the most daunting task for many new Muslims is learning to perform the Salaat, the ritual, five times a day act of worship that is mandatory for all Muslims.  Most of them struggle with the Arabic language words. While there are many resources online and in print that can be used to learn the Salaat, many of them are too detailed, and often too complex for new Muslims. Most of them do not follow a consistent transliteration scheme and we have not yet come across any resource that provides a step-by-step, graduated approach for learning and correctly pronouncing the Arabic language words.

The purpose behind this website is to serve as a repository of resources that will InshaAllah helped the new Muslim learn the Salaat with the correct pronunciation, learn the physical movements and changes in posture during the Salaat based on authentically narrated practice of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and understand the prerequisites for the Salaat as well as other related issues.

Here you will find a number of audiovisual resources. Some of them have been adapted from already available material from the Internet while other have been specifically produced for this website. There is also a detailed audio section dedicated to, first, teaching the new Muslims how to pronounce every single word of the Salaat correctly and, later, short audio tracks for practicing each phrase separately. Easy to understand handouts, a visual illustrated guide and cheat sheets, all following a consistent scheme of transliteration,  are available as PDF downloads. We will inshaAllah continued to add further resources as they become available. May Allah accept this from all of us and help us all improve our Salaat.
